When Should You Book Your Wedding Photographer?

First off, congrats! If you’ve recently got engaged, I hope you’re still buzzing! Once the ring is on and the planning begins, one of the big questions I always get is…..

When should we book you?

Here’s the honest answer:

as soon as you’ve got your date and venue sorted!

Photographers, especially on those golden summer Saturdays, get snapped up fast, often 12 to 18 months in advance. So if photos are a big priority for you, it’s definitely worth reaching out sooner rather than later.

I always tell my couples once the venue’s locked in, start shortlisting photographers whose style really speaks to you. And yes, I’m totally realistic, I know couples shop around, and rightly so. My role isn’t just to get booked; it’s to support you however I can. My advice will always be to do what feels right for you.

The earlier you start looking, the more choice you’ll have, and it gives you the breathing room to properly explore photographers’ work. Dive into full wedding galleries (not just the curated highlights on Instagram) so you can see how they capture the full flow of the day, from morning prep to dancefloor madness.Tip 3

And honestly? Just as important as loving their photos is making sure you vibe with them. Your photographer is with you for most of your wedding day, through the emotional, the chaotic, and the in-between. They’re not just taking pictures; they often end up being your calm companion, your dress fluffer, boutonnière fixer, and unofficial timekeeper. So it’s key that you feel comfortable, relaxed, and genuinely yourself around them.

Not quite ready to book? No pressure at all. I’m always happy to have a chilled chat, answer any questions, and help you figure out if we’d be a good fit.
